Can stress from the Coronavirus cause wrinkles and age your skin?

Due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, “Stay at Home” orders, social isolation and major economic anxiety (millions of Americans lost their jobs and thousands of businesses shut down due to COVID-19), it is natural for us to feel stressed out, among other things. Medical doctors remind us that it is very possible that if we have a life filled with constant stress, little by little our overall body is breaking down. How about the Quality of our Skin?
We need to remember that wrinkles are mainly caused by aging but constant stress accelerates skin aging! Chronic stress can increase inflammation, and also increase at high levels the “Cortisol”, the stress hormone, which breaks down the skin’s collagen and elastin. Collagen and elastin are important fibers that make up the supporting structure of our skin! Collagen gives skin its firmness while elastin keeps skin tight.

WHAT TO DO: To combat stress and give your skin a “break” make sure you get enough sleep, exercise regularly, reach out and stay connected with others, focus on healthy and natural diet, keep up with your daily skincare routine, seek medical help if overwhelmed or unsafe… and Always, Protect your Skin before it may be too late!

Folks, let us stay safe, healthy and beautiful! We can do it!
